Better line running

 

The AUV will stay within a few meters of the programmed line and maintain a constant height off the ocean bottom.

 

The AUV can work near obstructions where tethered systems would become entangled (figure 1).

 

The AUV's maneuverability is shown in figure 2, which shows a 2 km x 19 km C & C Technologies logo created from color-coded multibeam bathymetry (at one meter contour intervals) collected in 1,800 meters of water. The AUV mapped this "logo" on the seafloor in about 10 hours.
